Project Summary

Client: Pacific Resource Partnership (Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii)
Type:Corridor/Regional Transit Oriented Development Study
Program:Scenario development and co-benefits modeling of localized and island-wide impacts of varying land use scenarios along a new rail transit corridor in Honolulu.
Status:2011 - Ongoing
Location:
Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii

Calthorpe Associates is working with the Pacific Resource Partnership to study transit-oriented development (TOD) potential along Honolulu’s planned rail transit corridor. The RapidFire and UrbanFootprint models are being deployed to produce scenarios and model corridor and island-wide impacts of varying levels of TOD and transit investment on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Model outputs will include energy and water impacts, land conservation metrics, transportation impacts, greenhouse gas emissions, fiscal impacts to cities, household cost burdens, and housing mix and affordability. The project also includes an implementation and policy framework for TOD, which could serve as a roadmap for developing support for and implementing successful TOD in Oahu.
