Planner


Steven is an urban planner and designer who joined Calthorpe Associates in September 2005. His work has included:

  • Hawaii Regional Housing Privatization, Honolulu, HI - a public/private vision to redesign the family housing sites and create better communities for the enlisted in and around Pearl Harbor
  • Great Lakes Regional Housing Privatization, Chicago, IL - a program to create new communities and housing for the enlisted at the Great Lakes Installation in Northern Chicago
  • Navy Southeast Regional Housing Privatization - a proposal for privatizing and improving the quality of Navy communities throughout the southeast of the United States
  • West Bench Master Planning, Salt Lake City, UT - Environmentally sustainable Master Plan for 90,000 acres of mining land reuse and new development along the edge of the Salt Lake Valley

While studying at the University of Cincinnati's School of Planning, Steven completed several professional internships. He worked on transit-oriented design and streetscape projects with Design, Community & Environment in Berkeley, California. He gained regional planning and coordinating experience while working with the Regional Planning Partnership in Princeton, New Jersey. There, he contributed work towards RPP's Green Infrastructure Guide and helped organize a symposium on property tax reform at Princeton University.

At the University of Cincinnati, Steven worked with the Community Design Center, a collaborative interdisciplinary community/university partnership with the aim of researching and improving Cincinnati's troubled inner neighborhoods. At the CDC, Steven created and assembled graphics for an exhibit titled The Changing Cultural Landscape of the West End, which earned an award for best educational project of the year from the Cincinnati Preservation Association. As part of the University of Cincinnati's Sustainable Development Team, Steven worked on mapping, defining and preserving two historic traditional villages on the island of Crete in conjunction with 2004 Greek Olympic preparations.

Steven received his Bachelor of Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati. He also completed an independent study on the history of northern European urban form at the Universiteit van Amsterdam.
