| Status: | 1994-95 |
The Sonoma/Marin Multimodal Transportation and Land Use Study, led by Calthorpe Associates in 1994-95, took a comprehensive look at land use and travel patterns in the Northern San Francisco Bay to devise a balanced, multi-modal transportation system that incorporates a variety of travel modes and transit-supportive development scenarios.
The Study explored compact, mixed-use development around a cost-effective transit system as a means of tackling increasing highway congestion and urban sprawl. Preferred development scenarios incorporate improvements such as High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, commuter rail service, and bike trails into the North Bay’s transportation network, emphasizing land uses that promote transit use and reduce reliance on the automobile.
